Ohio Oil and Gas Foundation2017-02-22

They will award a $1,000 renewable scholarship (up to 4 years) for graduating seniors in Ohio who plan to attend an accredited college/university in Ohio and have a career goal in the crude oil and natural gas industry or related energy field.



Criteria:

1. Must be a U.S. citizen

2. Must be an Ohio resident and planning to attend an accredited Ohio college.

3. Must be planning to pursue a career in the crude oil and natural gas industry or related energy field

4. Must maintain a 2.50 or better gpa to be eligible for renewal

5. Submitting transcripts with applications is encouraged but not required

6. 1 Recommendation letter from teacher, employer or mentor figure

7. 250-500 word essay describing personal and career goals, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, awards/recognitions, community service, work history, financial needs and personal/family influences.

Ohio PTA Academic Scholarship2017-02-22

The Ohio PTA is awarding three different $500 scholarships to Ohio Seniors. One is for a student planning to attend a four-year college, one is for a student planning to attend a two-year college or technical school and one is for a special education student planning to further his/her education. There are separate applications for each. See scholarship folders for the criteria for the other scholarships.

Ohio PTA Technical Scholarship2017-02-22

The Ohio PTA will award a $500 scholarship to a senior planning to obtain an associate degree or technical degree.



CRITERIA:



1. Scholastic achievement

2. School involvement

3. Leadership

4. Counselor recommendation

5. Special family circumstances

6. Plan to enroll in an associate degree program or a technical program

7. Applications can be found in the Scholarship Drawer located in A114 or applications can be found online at www.ohiopta.org, Click on 2017 Technical Scholarship Application. The application can be filled out online. Then print the completed application, attach your letter of recommendation and transcript.

8. Turn in the application to the Guidance Office, room A114, by Feb. 22. The application must be received by the Ohio PTA by March 1.

Ohio PTA Special Education Scholarship2017-02-22

The Ohio PTA will award a $500 scholarship to a special education student to continue his/her education. The award will be based on the individual's abilities, life skills and realistic goals. A recommendation letter is required. Must have a current IEP/504.



Applications can be found in the Scholarship Drawer in A114 or online at: www.ohiopta.org. Click on Programs, then 2017 Special Needs Scholarship Application. The application can be filled out online. Then print the completed application and attach a letter of recommendation and a transcript.



Turn in the completed application to the Guidance Office, room A114, by Feb. 22. Applications must be received by the Ohio PTA by March 1.

Cleveland Hockey Booster Club2017-02-24

The Cleveland Hockey Booster Club will award 5 scholarships (as college/university bookstore credit) in the amounts of $2000, $1700, $1400, $1100, $800 to high school seniors currently playing in the NCHSHL (North coast High School Hockey League) or GCHSHL (Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League). Mentor is a member of the GCHSHL.



Criteria:

1. Must be graduating in 2017 and planning to attend college 2017-2018.

2. Minimum 3.0 gpa.

3. Letter from coach or assistant coach which includes how player displayed good sportsmanship and/or leadership

4. Must have earned two or more Varsity Hockey Letters or participated in Club Hockey for two or more years.

5. Must submit an essay entitled, "What High School Hockey has Meant to Me"



DEADLINE: 2/24/17

Ohio National Guard Scholarship2017-02-28

This is a state-funded scholarship program for individuals who enlist in the Ohio National Guard. No other branch of service offers this program. They will pay 100% of the total instruction and general fee charges of state-assisted colleges. Guard members also receive Drill Pay for training 2 days per month that are conducted at the nearest location. They also will receive active duty pay for 15 days of active duty service per year. Other benefits include retirement benefits, VA home loans, life/health/dental insurance, commissary and exchange privileges. Also members can receive discounted rates for military recrational facilities and free military flights (space permitting). Information available at: nationalguard.com

University of Akron Choose Ohio First2017-03-01

The Choose Ohio First STEM Scholarship program was created to help support students active in an undergraduate degree in a STEM academic field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Fields that are included are Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences (physics, chemistry astronomy, material science), Mathematical sciences, Computer and Information sciences, Geosciences, Engineering, and Technology areas associated with the preceding fields.



Students selected will receive a $5,200 per academic year, renewable up to 4 years of support at Univ. of Akron, effective fall 2017. This scholarship is in addition to most offers received from UA's Office of Student Financial Aid

College Club of Cleveland2017-03-01

The College Club of Cleveland is offering scholarships to graduating seniors in the greater Cleveland area. They will award 3-4 scholarships in amounts ranging from $500-$2,000. These are renewable for a total of 4 consecutive years if you maintain a 3.0 gpa or higher.



Criteria:

1. Must be a senior graduating in 2017.

2. To apply, go to their website, fill out the application and email it directly to them.

3. Two letters of recommendation, transcript and attendance records must be emailed to them as well.

Ron Stapleton Memorial Scholarship2017-03-03

This scholarship is in memory of Ronald Stapleton. He graduated from MHS in 1969 and University of Cincinnati in 1972. His 1600 meter time is still a record at MHS. He was an All-American cross-country runner at UC. Ron was an outstanding individual, devoted family man and successful businessman. One $750 scholarship will be awarded in his memory to a student who has at least 2 years of varsity cross-country and/or track participation). Applicant will be evaluated on additional criteria as described below.



Criteria:

1. Applicant must have participated in at least 2 years varsity cross-country and/or track

2. Scholarship is to be used for educational training beyond high school at any college, university, trade or technical school.

3. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of: financial need, grades, extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations (2) and autobiography

Vincent L. Petro Memorial Scholarship2017-03-07

The Vincent L. Petro Memorial Scholarship will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from Mentor High School who resides in Lake County.



Criteria:



1. Minimum 2.5 gpa

2. Planning to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year college/university or an accredited vocational/technical school.

3. Must include copy of SAR from the FAFSA including the pages listing the Expected Family Contribution.

4. Two letters of recommendation. One from a teacher and one from a community member who is not a relative.

5. Transcript

6. Scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need, academics, community service and extra-curricular activities.

The Mentor Schools Foundation will award a minimum of 2-$750 scholarships to graduating seniors from Mentor High School.

Cuyahoga Community College will award scholarships in the amount of $2,500 based on excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character. Applicants must have completed a Tech Program during high school.



Criteria:

1. Be a 2017 high school graduate planning to attend Cuyahoga Community College in fall 2017 or spring 2018.

2. Must be a resident of Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Lorain, Medina, Portage or Summit County.

Dr. Theodore Webster Memorial Scholarship2017-03-08

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Theodore Webster who was a 1987 graduate of Mentor High School. They will award a $500 scholarship to a Mentor High School senior who plans to attend The Ohio State University (main campus or a branch).



Criteria:

1. Must be a Mentor High School senior graduating in May 2017 and planning to attend The Ohio State University (main campus or a branch).

2. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial need, character, responsibility and GPA.

3. Attach a transcript.

The Mentor Teachers Association will award up to $1,000 to a Mentor High senior(s) planning to attend college. The award may be divided among candidates at the discretion of the committee.

3. Recommendations from two high school teachers from different subject areas.

The Mentor Teachers Association will award up to $1,000 to a graduating senior(s) who plans to major in education or the award may be divided among candidates at the discretion of the committee.

3. Must have completed at least two years at Mentor High

4. Recommendations from two high school teachers from different subject areas. Recommendation should speak to likelihood of success in the teaching profession.

The Mentor Teachers Association will award up to $1,000 to a Mentor High senior(s) planning to attend a Technical/Vocational school or 2-year college. The award may be divided among recipients at the discretion of the committee.

1. At least a 3.0 gpa

2. Must have completed at least two years at Mentor High

3. Must be planning to enroll in a Technical/Vocational school or a 2-year college.

4. Recommendations from two high school teachers from different subject areas.

MENTOR HIGH DEADLINE: March 8, 2017



Rita Matteo Memorial Scholarship2017-03-09

Seniors who have attended Mentor High School or Lake Catholic High School for a minimum of 2 years are eligible to apply for this scholarship established in memory of Rita Matteo. Rita Matteo was an officer and actively involved with the Parent Teacher Association at Brentmoor Elementary School. The Rita Matteo Memorial Scholarship Board has allocated funds to award up to $12,000 in scholarships.



Criteria:

1. Must have attended MHS or Lake Catholic at least 2 years

2. Must include transcript with ACT and/or SAT scores

3. Neatness is highly regarded.

4. Two letters of recommendation are required. One from a MHS staff member and the second from a community member with which the student is affiliated (not an employer or MHS staff member).

5. Applicants are evaluated on the basis of community service, character, responsibility and academic achievement with special emphasis on community service.

Bellflower Elementary Sue Dzanko Memorial Scholarship2017-03-10

Bellflower Elementary PTA will award two $1,000 scholarships to graduating MHS seniors for educational training beyond high school.



Criteria:

1. Attended Bellflower at least three years, including all of 5th grade

2. Minimum 2.0 gpa

3. Financial need, character and responsibility

4. Recommendation letter from teacher or guidance counselor

5. Applicants must go to: www.mentorschools.net/bellflower/site/default.asp and fill out the application on-line. Then, print it out and return it along with the recommendation letter to the MHS Guidance office.

Junior Women's Club of Mentor2017-03-21

The Junior Women"s Club of Mentor will award $1,000 in scholarship(s) to senior students residing in the Mentor School District. Number of scholarships and amounts to be awarded will be based on number and quality of applications. Applicants do not have to be female.



Criteria:

1. Community service and leadership

2. One recommendation letter

3. Typed essay of less than 500 words on, "A Hardship You Have Overcome".

Lakeland Area Counselors Association2017-03-21

The Lakeland Area Counselors Association will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from an Ashtabula, Lake or Geauga County High School with a current LACA member employed by the school district. MHS counselors are members of LACA.



Criteria:

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen

2. Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

3. Must be planning to enroll in a Certificate Program, Technical/Vocational College, 2 or 4-year institution for 2017-2018.

4. If awarded the scholarship, the recipient MUST attend the April 24, 2017 LACA Meeting at Quail Hollow Country Club. Non-attendance will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.

5. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of: involvement in community and school based activities and service. Counselor recommendation will be solicited by the committee - do not attach a recommendation letter.

6. Transcript must be included.

Brandon's Gift (Brandon Shima Memorial)2017-03-22



The Brandon's Gift Scholarship has been established in memory of Mentor High School student, Brandon Shima. One $750 scholarship will be awarded to a MHS 2017 graduate who will be continuing their education at any post-graduate vocational/technical school, college or university.



Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a MHS varsity football player or athlete graduating in 2017.

2. Aids fellow students in the fight against bullying

3. To be used for educational training beyond high school at any college, university, trade or technical school.

4. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of: leadership, character, community service, volunteer work/good deed and future goals.

5. 250-word essay (see application for topic)

6. Must attach 3 recommendation forms that have been completed by:

a. Current teacher/coach/counselor

b. Employer, community service organization/volunteer organization

c. Clergy, family friend, neighbor

Hudec Dental Scholarship2017-03-24

Hudec Dental will award a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to a graduating senior to be used for college tuition or related expenses.



Criteria:

3. Must submit a 500 word essay detailing "how you changed the quality of life in your community with your service."

The Lake County Fair Board will award a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior.



CRITERIA:



1. Lake County resident

2. Must be a member of a Lake County 4-H organization or be a member of the Lake County Junior Fair Board

3. Proof of acceptance into a college or technical school

4. Minimum 2.5 gpa

5. Essay summarizing school/community activities and worthiness

Lebanese Syrian American Junior League2017-03-27

The Lebanese-Syria Junior Women's League will award three-$1,000 scholarships to girls or boys of Lebanese or Syrian descent residing in the greater Cleveland area.



CRITERIA:



1. Academically outstanding (At least a "B" average)

2. Must be of Lebanese or Syrian descent, female or male

3. Autobiography: 200 words

4. Recommendations: Two

Lake County Medical Alliance2017-03-27

The Lake County Medical Alliance will award scholarships to high school seniors. Last year, they awarded six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors.



CRITERIA:



1. Plan to pursue a health-related field

2. Areas of interest: pharmacy, speech and hearing, physical therapy, nursing, medical technology, physician assistant, radiologic technology, nutrition, respiratory therapy, to name a few. (Excludes pre-med, psychology, dental health and veterinary health)

3. At least a 3.0 GPA

4. Financial need

6. Autobiographical paragraph

Memorial Middle School PTA2017-03-27

Memorial Middle School PTA will award 4-$500 scholarships to seniors at Mentor High who intend to pursue a 4-year degree at a college/university or students who will be pursuing their education at any 2-year college, technical, vocational school. At least one will be given to a 2-year/tech school applicant.

1. Attended Memorial for a minimum of two years and is currently a senior at MHS

BP Scholarship (females only)2017-03-27

The Fluorine Chapter of Iota Sigma Pi will award the BP Scholarship(s) of $2,000 to young women with a profound interest in chemistry who will be attending an Ohio college or university.



Criteria:

1. Must be female and a high school senior

2. Must have applied to an accredited four-year college/university in Ohio with the intent of pursuing a scientific career after graduation. (Pre-med, pre-pharmacy/pharmacy are excluded)

3. Must have completed, or be in the process of completing, a minimum of 3 academic years of physical science courses and 3 academic years of math.

4. Must have at least a 3.4 gpa

5. Must exhibit strong scientific achievement and continued interest in both chemistry and mathematics.

The Ross and Carmella DeJohn Scholarship is offering $500 scholarship(s) to graduating senior(s) from Lake County.

MHS Deadline: 3/21/17

Fields of Learning2017-03-28

Fields of Learning, a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by the Ferguson family of Kirtland Hills, Ohio, is encouraging Ohio high school students (whether part of a football team or not) to write about their learning experiences related to high school football and to reward as many as possible with financial aid for continuing education. There will be five $1,000 awards.



CRITERIA:



1. ALL high school students - not limited to football players. Fans, band members, cheerleaders, etc, are all invited to enter.

2. 700-1500 word essay. The essay should discuss something you learned related to high school football. This is not limited to experiences of actually being on the high school football team. For example, maybe you learned something as a cheerleader, band member or as a fan who attended games, or from an experience a friend or relative had. Anything you think of that has a connection at all to high school football is acceptable.

3. Essay must be typewritten and be a true story told in your own words.

4. You are encouraged to complete the online registration and submit your essay via email to admin@fieldsoflearning.org. Include your last name and title of your essay in the Subject Line. In the body of the mail, include your full name, mailing address, phone number, high school, current grade and year of graduation.

5. You may send your essay through US Mail to 9387 Sperry Rd., Kirtland Hills, OH 44060. Include a brief cover letter with your full name, address, phone number, high school, grade level and year of graduation.

6. Emailed or mailed entries must be received by Fields of Learning by 3/31/17.

Ruth Hanes (L.C.E. Federal Credit Union) Scholarship2017-03-28

The LCE (Lake County Employees) Federal Credit Union will award one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship in honor of retired manager, Ruth Hanes. (Check the LCE website, www.lcefcu.org, to see the list of companies and organizations that are within their field of membership.) Applicant MUST be a member of L.C.E. (Lake County Federal Credit Union) or a relative of a member of the credit union. All other applicants will be disqualified.



CRITERIA:

1. Senior graduating from Harvey, Riverside, Mentor, Lake Catholic, Fairport, Kirtland, Madison, Perry, Wickliffe or Willoughby-Eastlake high school

2. Applicant must be a member or a relative of a member of L.C.E. Federal Credit Union (child, grandchild, niece, nephew, sibling)

3. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA

4. Must attend college in Ohio and submit a letter of acceptance from the school

Lake County Farm Bureau2017-03-29

The Lake County Farm Bureau will award a scholarship, renewable for up to four years, to a graduating high school senior. The amount will be determined by the number of acceptable qualifying applicants.

2. Applicant must be a resident of Lake County and parent/guardian must be a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau

3. Have at least a 3.0 gpa

5. Must attach copy of college/university acceptance letter

6. Essay (500 words) covering an area of interest in agriculture, activities, hobbies and special interests, and what you can contribute to the future of agriculture





MHS DEADLINE: 3/29/17

Slater & Zurz LLP2017-03-31

The law form of Slater & Zurz in Akron, Ohio, will award a $1,000 scholarship to an Ohio high school senior graduating in 2017 and who will be attending a college/university in Ohio. Scholarship is not tied directly to student's GPA, ACT scores or class rank. It will be awarded on the basis of the preparation of a brief YouTube video along with an accompanying written essay.

3. Student must create a 2-4 minute YouTube video. There are two options for the topic of the video. (see website for specifics)

4. Student must submit a 500-1000 word essay about the topic discussed in the video.

The Mentor High School PTSA will award four $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who are members of the MHS PTSA or whose parent is a member.

Richard G. Small Foundation Scholarship2017-04-01

This scholarship was established by Cleveland Construction Company in memory of their former Chairman and CEO and MHS 1955 graduate. This scholarship is to be awarded to students as passionate about Mentor as Richard was. They will award 4-$2,000 scholarships to MHS graduating seniors planning to pursue careers in Engineering Technologies and Construction programs at any college, trade, or vocational school to cover tuition, fees and books.



Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a MHS senior planning to pursue a career in Engineer Technologies or Construction at any college, trade or vocational school to cover tuition, fees and books.

2. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of leadership, character and service.

3. Two recommendation letters are required from MHS faculty, work advisors, community leaders, or any other person you've been involved with (not a relative) who can attest why you deserve the scholarship.

4. 250-word essay (see application for topic)

5. Return completed applications to the MHS Guidance Office (A114) by 4/1/17.

William D. Squires Educational Foundation Scholarship2017-04-03

The William D. Squires Educational Foundation will award 15 renewable scholarships valued at $3,000 to college-bound seniors planning to attend a two-year or four-year college. This award is based primarily on financial need (EFC less than $8,000).



CRITERIA:



1. Academics (at least a 3.2 GPA)

3. Applicants must have an EFC less than $8,000

MENTOR HIGH DEADLINE: 4/14/17

Lake County Retired Teachers Association (Education Majors)2017-04-19

The Lake County Retired Teachers Association will award a scholarship to a graduating senior who intends to major in education. The amount of the scholarship varies from year to year; however, it will be sufficient to purchase all or some textbooks. Mentor High School may only submit ONE application. Interested students must return the completed application to the Guidance Office, room A-114, by April 19.



Criteria:



1. Must be a graduating senior planning to enroll in a 4-year college/university with the intent of majoring in education.

2. Financial aid is a major consideration and students are asked to write on a separate sheet of paper any special circumstances that exist that would help us (Mentor HS) determine our candidate for this scholarship.

3. Two letters of recommendation.

4. Academic achievement, community involvement and extracurricular activities are additional considerations.

5. MHS may only submit ONE application. Completed applications must be returned to the Guidance Office, room A-114, by April 19, 2017.

6. If you are chosen as a finalist you must be available for an interview to be held on Monday, June 19th. The candidate will be contacted by the organization with details on time/place for the interview.

Association of Specialists in Aging2017-04-24

The ASA is a Lake County network if businesses and individuals providing services to the senior marketplace. They will award at least one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating Lake County high school senior who has applied to an accredited college or university in the health and wellness arena with the intent to work in geriatrics.





Criteria:

1. Minimum gpa 2.5

2. Must be planning to attend an accredited four-year, two-year or vocational institute of post-secondary education with the intent to pursue an emphasis towards geriatrics.

3. Must be a resident of Lake County.

4. Must submit a 250-word typed essay addressing specific areas as described in the application.

The Americans of Italian Heritage will award four scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each for graduating seniors.

3. Must plan to attend either a 2 or 4-year college/university as full time student

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. They are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student.
