WHAT IS IT?
Advanced Placement United States History is comparable to an introductory college course in U.S. Civilization. A college-level text, The American Pageant, is the main resource and is supplemented by primary and secondary source readings.
The course content begins with the Discovery and Settlement of the New World, proceeds through the Colonial period, the Revolutionary Period, the New Nation, the Civil War, the Gilded Age, the Progressive Age, World Wars I and II, the Cold War (including the Korean and Vietnam conflicts), and concludes with the administrations of Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and G.W. Bush.
AP U.S. History is a weighted course which prepares students to take the Advanced Placement U.S. History Test in May. The AP test includes a multiple choice section, a document-based essay question, and two free response essay questions.

WHY TAKE AP UNITED STATES HISTORY?
If you love history, this is the course for you. Testing out of a survey level will enable you to take upper level college history classes in your freshman year.
If you hate history, this is the course for you. Testing out of a survey level will enable you to fulfill a course requirement and never have to take another history class again.

Taking any AP class and doing well on the test will give you college credits that put you ahead of the masses of other freshman when registering for classes, may enable you to graduate early, or may give you an opportunity to sample college courses you might not have been able to take if your schedule was filled up with required courses.
It's fun a lot of the time - I can't guarantee constant joy!
It's an opportunity to enjoy the Roberts' film festival,
a selection of historically-based feature films.
THE UNIVERSITY AND AP CLASSES
College admissions committees, particularly those from the more selective colleges, like to see applicants who have taken demanding schedules and have challenged themselves academically. Students who have waltzed through high school with "cake" courses may be at a disadvantage when competing for admission against students who have not chosen the easy way.
AND IN CONCLUSION...
If you decide to give AP United States History a try,
I look forward to sharing with you the drama of history and ...IT WILL
BE AN ADVENTURE!!
