Football: October 28, 2016

Mentor Defeats Elyria The Mentor Cardinals cruised past the Elyria Pioneers 63-34 in the final regular season game for the season. The Cards end the regular season at 6-4 while awaiting to see if a playoff game is next. The scoring tonight was frequent starting with a Tadas Tatarunas TD toss to Steve Baird for 10 yards. Isaiah Gullick then trotted in the end zone with a 3 yard score followed by another score of 12 yards. Tatarunas then hit Manning Trubisky with a 30 yard TD and then Baird with a 51 yard strike. Just before half, Tatarunas hit Trubisky again but this time for 4 yard TD. 9 total TDs were scored by both teams in the second quarter. The halftime score was 42-34 in favor of the Cards! Mentor scored the final 21 points in the second half with a TD toss by Tatarunas but this time to Derek Kleinhenz for 43 yards. Gullick added 2 additional rushing TDs of 34 and 4 yards to end the scoring. The 6-4 Cardinals now await games tomorrow to see if they receive a playoff invite. Stay tuned and GO CARDS!


Football: October 21, 2016

The Mentor Cardinals traveled to Brunswick and returned home with a 22-16 victory over the Blue Devils. The Cards (5-4) scored early and never lost the lead. In the first quarter, Tadas Tatarunas hit Manning Trubisky for a 3 yard Touchdown. Isaiah Gullick then scored on a 1 yard burst. The final Cardinal score came with Gullick's 2nd TD tonight on a 13 yard score. Tatarunas finished the game going 18 of 35 for 207 yards while Gullick had 20 carries for 98 yards. Steve Baird led all receivers with 7 catches for 90 yards. The Cards compiled 300 total yards compared to the Blue Devils with 216. Join us next week for the final regular season game of the year when the Cards host Elyria at the JTO. The Friday, October 28th game has a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. Football: October 13, 2016

The Mentor Cardinals brought their 3-4 record back to the JTO to take on the Strongsville Mustangs. The Cards won the game 42-26 while compiling over 559 yards on the evening. Scoring for the Cardinals started when Chris Edmond ran a 2 yard score. This was followed by a Ryan Hagan to Manning Trubisky 52 yard strike. Michael Ballentine retuned a kickoff 94 yards for a TD and Tadas Tatarunas hit Isaiah Gullick for a 33 yard scoring strike to go in at halftime up 28-10. Mentor's Tatarunas threw another TD toss but this time to Trubisky for 24 yards. Finally, Tatarunas connected for his 3rd TD on the evening when he hit Trubisky again and this time for a long 71 yard TD reception. The Cards travel to Brunswick next week for the 7:00 pm kickoff on Friday, October 21st. Leave work a little early and join us next week in Brunswick as the Cards try to make the playoffs. The Mentor Cardinals needed a win to remain in the playoff hunt hosting the Solon Comets at the JTO. Unfortunately, the Comets came in and controlled the game handing the Cards a 37-8 loss. The Cardinals (2-4) only score came on a Tadas Tatarunas TD toss to Manning Trubisky. Tatarunas was 16 for 34 for 154 yards in the air. Isaiah Gullick had 68 yards on 17 carries tonight while Steve Baird had 9 catches for 95 yards. It's still very rare for an opponent to win at Mentor as we still have an amazing 58-6 home record since 2006. Join us next week as the Cards head to Medina for a 7:00 kickoff on Friday, October 7th. The Mentor Cardinals invited the Shaker Heights Red Raiders to the JTO for a GCC matchup. The mild evening saw the Cards get on the board quickly when Isaiah Gullick ran a 1 yard score. He followed that up with another score giving the Cards a 14-0 lead after the 1st quarter. Mentor had a busy 2nd quarter scoring three times. Gullick ran a 6 yard score followed by a Tadas Tatarunas to Dan Adams 2 yard TD. Gullick then ran his 4 TD on the night with a 26 yard score giving the Cards a 34-0 lead at half. The running clock made the second half go by quickly with one final Mentor score. Chris Edmund ran a 1 yard score making the final 41-0. Conor McIntosh added 5 extra points tonight. The Cards raise their record to 2-3 heading into the homecoming game. Join us on September 30th as the Solon Comets visit the JTO. GO CARDS!!!

The Mentor Cardinals traveled a short distance to Euclid to take on the Panthers for a Thursday night contest and came up short in a 47-37 loss. The first quarter was rather quiet with Mentor scoring first on a 34 yard TD reception by Steve Baird from Tadas Tatarunas. Euclid scored next leaving the Cards with a 7-6 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was anything but quiet. Euclid scored 3 times in the quarter while Mentor scored twice in 1:58 of game time. The first score came on a Tatarunas to Ryan Hagan 79 yard strike between two defenders. Mentor followed up with another Tatarunas TD to Baird but this time for 6 yards. Both second quarter Mentor TD's also included 2 point conversions. The halftime score was Euclid 26 Mentor 23. The 3rd quarter remained wild with Euclid scoring twice again while the Cards added another Baird TD reception with a 20 yard TD from Tatarunas. The teams traded scores in the final quarter giving the Panthers the 47-37 victory. The Cards come back home next week when Shaker Heights visits the JTO on Friday, September 23 for the 7:00 pm kickoff. See you there! GO CARDS!!!

The Mentor Cardinals hosted the St. Xavier Bombers at the JTO and came up short 20-7. It's only the 5th loss in 62 games since the JTO was named back in 2006 and it gives the Cards a 1-2 record this season. After a scoreless first quarter by both teams, the Cards opened the scoring with a 16 yard TD reception from Tadas Tatarunas to Ryan Hagan. The Bombers shut the Cardinals out of the end zone for the rest of the game. The Cards made it interesting by knocking on the door with only 13 seconds left in the game but gave up a scoring interception to end the game. It's a short week coming up as the next game is on Thursday, September 15th at Euclid. Come join us for the short drive to watch the Cardinals take on the Panthers. The Mentor Cardinals traveled to Byers Field to take on the St. Ignatius Wildcats only to suffer a tough loss 49-7. The only Cardinal score came early when Tadas Tatarunas hit Derek Kleinhenz with a 47 yard scoring strike. The last time the Cardinals were held to 7 points or less was 3 years ago when the same Wildcats beat Mentor 26-6 on 9/6/13. The Cardinals will recharge and come back next week to host the St. Xavier Bombers at the JTO. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9th. Come join us and GO CARDS!

Mentor travels to Byers Field in Parma to take on St. Ignatius on Saturday for a 7pm kickoff.
