Football:CARDINAL PRIDE:
The Mentor Cardinals continued their playoff quest with a joyful victory over the St. Edward's Eagles 21-13. The win moves them to the Regional Final game next week against the St. Ignatius Wildcats. The Cardinals (11-1) didn't score much in this game as it was the defense who came up big contributing the win. Down 10-0 after the first quarter, the Card came back to score two TD's in the second quarter. Elijah McDougal ran an 8 yard score followed by a Tadas Tatarunas pass to Logan Shea for a 13 yard TD. The 3rd quarter saw no scoring from either team leading to a final score by the Cards on a Chris Edmond score of 2 yards. The Mentor defense held the Eagles to only 13 points in the game. But the telltale stat was the Cardinal defense holding St. Ed's to 2-13 on 3rd down attempts. In a game where Mentor was held to only half the normal points they score on offense, the defense deserves the shout out for their outstanding effort!!! Join us next week for a rematch against the St. Ignatius Wildcats (12-0) on Friday, November 17th at a site to be determined. The Wildcats beat the Cards for their only loss this season 41-31 on September 1st. GO CARDS!
